OCHA: In 34 years, about 57 thousand Afghans have been affected by mine explosions

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan (OCHA) says that since 34 years, about 57,000 Afghans have been killed or injured due to the explosion of unexploded ordnance.
OCHA wrote in a tweet on the occasion of World Mine Awareness Day that since 1989, about 57 thousand people in Afghanistan have been affected by the explosion of unexploded ordnance left over from the war.
UCHA added that demining agencies in Afghanistan have cleared more than 19 million items and more than 4,150 mine hazards have been identified, which pose a deadly threat to communities, especially children.
This is while the death of several children due to the explosion of unexploded materials in some provinces of Afghanistan has been reported during the past week.
