UNICEF: South Asia, including Afghanistan, has the highest percentage of children exposed to extreme heat

The United Nations Children’s Fund says that South Asia, including Afghanistan, has the highest percentage of children exposed to extremely high temperatures compared to other regions.
UNICEF said in its report that based on the climate risk index in 2021, children in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Pakistan are at very high risk of the effects of climate change.
This organization estimated that 76% of children under the age of 18 in South Asia, which is 460 million, are exposed to very high temperatures.
According to UNICEF, 3 out of every 4 children in South Asia are exposed to very high temperatures.
UNICEF said countries in the region are not currently the hottest countries in the world, but the heat here poses life-threatening risks to millions of vulnerable children.
