Karzai: Forced removal of the Taliban is not the solution
Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has said that the forced removal of the Taliban is not a solution.
In an interview with the Japanese news agency Kyodo News, he said that Afghans no longer want war in Afghanistan and that the conflict will make the situation worse than today.
The former president of Afghanistan said in this interview: “We do not want the collapse of the government or the division of the regime, we have had enough conflicts in Afghanistan and now we want to improve the politics.”
Mr. Karzai demanded the return of women and girls to education and work and added that intra-Afghan dialogue with the presence of all ethnic groups is the only solution to the current crisis in Afghanistan.
In this interview, the former president named the agreement between the US and the Taliban in 2020 as the biggest reason for the collapse of the previous government.
Referring to the 20-year process of reconstruction and democratization of Afghanistan by the international community, Mr. Karzai said: “The failure of democracy in Afghanistan was not the rejection of the ordinary people of Afghanistan, they accepted democracy. It was a mismanagement by the government of the time and the international community and its supporters.”
In the continuation of this interview, the former president of Afghanistan called the Taliban a radical movement and said that this group understands the necessity of dialogue, but before starting this process, the passage of time and preparation is necessary.
