SİGAR: US Withdrawal from Afghanistan Still Biggest Contributor to Afghans

The U.S. Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) said in a new report that the United States remained the largest donor to the Afghan people after the Taliban took office, spending $7.71 billion.
According to SIGAR, the budget includes $2.63 billion in humanitarian and development assistance in Afghanistan and $5.08 billion in the transfer and settlement of Afghan refugees.
According to SIGAR, the Biden government also transferred $3.5 billion in frozen money from the Central Bank of Afghanistan in the United States to a bank in Switzerland.
In his quarterly report sent to the U.S. Congress, SIGAR also addressed the situation in Afghanistan after two and a half years of Taliban rule, saying that although there is improvement in several areas, such as the fight against drugs, most social, economic and humanitarian indicators are clearly deteriorating.
Acute food insecurity is expected to affect 15.8 million people in Afghanistan by March 2024, an increase of 500,000 from the previous year, the report noted.
