UN pledges $3.8 million in aid to forced returnees from Pakistan
The United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated $3.8 million in aid to forced returnees from Pakistan.
The World Food Programme (WFP) said it could provide cash assistance for nearly 33,000 families or more than 230,000 children, women and men, including people with disabilities who have been forced to return to Afghanistan for a month.
The WFP has said returnee families are returning to Afghanistan at the worst of times, when hunger is exacerbated and humanitarian aid is at a low level.
The program added that last year it was forced to cut food aid due to a lack of funding, which affected 10 million people.
The World Food Programme said it received a total of $29.3 million in 2023 and provided food or cash assistance for the earthquake victims in Herat Province and more than 200,000 vulnerable people.
