Khalil Rahman Haqqani Criticizes Countries for Mistreating Afghan Refugees

Khalil Rahman Haqqani, the acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, criticized countries, particularly neighboring ones, for their mistreatment of Afghan refugees during a ceremony in Kabul on Tuesday. He stated that countries are mistreating Afghan citizens under various pretexts.

Speaking at the inauguration of a solar energy project, Haqqani added that Afghan refugees do not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, and neighboring countries should stop expelling Afghan refugees.

The acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation said: “We urge all neighboring countries to show compassion toward our refugees. Any issue related to them is the responsibility of the international community. Refugees do not interfere in the internal matters of any country and have never done so. They should be given more time.”

Haqqani further emphasized that security has now been restored in Afghanistan, and the country is ready to welcome investors in various sectors. He called on Afghan citizens, especially the youth living abroad, to return and contribute their skills to rebuilding the nation.

The acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation added: “Try to return to your homeland. No matter how much time you spend abroad, home is home. You have a responsibility toward your country, and this is the land of our forefathers; come back so we can rebuild it together.”

In a related development, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation also announced on Tuesday the release of 28 Afghan citizens from a Pakistani prison. They had been detained for not having legal documents but have now returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border after their release.
