Envoy: China Will Continue Supporting Afghan Peace, Reconstruction
Yue Xiaoyong, China’s special representative for Afghanistan, stated in an interview with a Chinese media outlet that neighboring and regional countries have agreed to cooperate in achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan.
In the interview, Yue Xiaoyong described terrorism as a shared concern among nations and highlighted that China would continue to support peace and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
China’s special representative for Afghanistan said: “Terrorism is a primary concern for all parties. This is why China is actively participating in supporting all parties in peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan, mobilizing assistance from regional and international communities, and cooperating with Afghanistan to achieve shared goals, including combating terrorism and ensuring security.”
Comparing the policies of the US and China towards Afghanistan, Yue added that China does not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. He also highlighted the importance of addressing women’s issues in Afghanistan, while pointing out that women’s rights are not the sole or primary problem in the country.
He further stated: “The issue of women, which you mentioned, is an important topic and has received widespread attention. However, it is neither the entirety of Afghanistan’s problems nor the main or root cause. We must continue to prioritize Afghan women while also collaborating with the global community to tackle Afghanistan’s most pressing challenges, such as poverty, hunger, refugees, and terrorism threats.”
Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate has expressed its commitment to fostering trust between Kabul and Beijing, reiterating its assurance that Afghanistan will not be used against any country.
Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said: “We consider concerns about the presence of rogue groups in Afghanistan to be unfounded. Afghanistan is now safe, and no foreign group is allowed to operate here or to use Afghanistan’s territory to pose a threat to any country.”
“China’s strategic interests lie in its friendship with the Afghan government, and similarly, Afghanistan’s strategic interests lie in its friendship with China. Both countries can become strategic partners and collaborators,” Fazl Rahman Orya, a political analyst, told .
Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping had stated that his country would continue to play a constructive role in resolving issues related to Afghanistan.
