Hundreds of Afghan Migrants Deported from Pakistan During Eid

Pakistan has forcibly deported hundreds of Afghan migrants over the three days of Eid.

Migrants who were returned to Afghanistan via the Spin Boldak crossing say that the treatment of Afghans in Pakistan has become increasingly harsh. They report that even Afghans who traveled there for medical treatment are no longer allowed to stay in hotels.

Akhtar Mohammad, a returnee, said: “Pakistani police severely beat me, and many Afghan migrants who were with me were also beaten.”

Abdullah, another returnee, said: “The situation for migrants in Pakistan has become very bad. Afghan migrants are being detained and transferred to camps where there are no facilities. During the two days I was there, I was not given anything.”

Others who had traveled to Pakistan legally for medical treatment also say they are denied accommodation in hotels, despite suffering from serious illnesses.

Ahmad, an Afghan detained in Pakistan, said: “My patient has been left outside, and we are not allowed to stay in hotels.”

Meanwhile, officials from the Department of Refugees and Repatriation in Kandahar say that during the three days of Eid, 220 migrants and 398 detainees were handed over to the Islamic Emirate via the Spin Boldak crossing, marking an increase compared to previous periods.

Nematullah Alfat, deputy head of the department, said: “Since Eid, 220 Afghan migrants have been expelled from Pakistan and transferred to their respective areas by the Islamic Emirate.”

Officials say that although the number of Afghan migrants in Pakistan has decreased, the process of forced deportations continues.
