Pezeshkian’s Letter to Americans; Emphasis on Iran’s Defensive Stance

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a letter to the people of the United States released moments ago, emphasized his country’s resistance to what he called “occupation, aggression, and sustained pressure from global powers,” stating that “Iran, at least since the founding of the United States, has never initiated a war,” but has instead “resolutely repelled those who have attacked it.”

Pezeshkian, referring to Iran’s military superiority over “many of its neighbors,” added that the Iranian people harbor no enmity toward other nations, including the people of the United States, Europe, and neighboring countries.

He stressed that portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day observable facts, adding that such a perception is the product of political and economic whims of the powerful.

The letter also states: “Recent American aggressions launched from these very bases have demonstrated how threatening such a military presence truly is. Naturally, no country confronted with such conditions would forgo strengthening its defensive capabilities. What Iran has done—and continues to do—is a measured response grounded in legitimate self-defense, and by no means an initiation of war or aggression.”

The senior Iranian official added that his country pursued negotiations, reached an agreement, and fulfilled all its commitments, but held the Trump administration responsible for withdrawing from the agreement, escalating confrontation, and launching two acts of aggression during negotiations, describing these as “destructive choices.”

The Iranian president also accused the United States of entering this confrontation as a proxy for Israel, raising the question of whether “America First” is truly among the priorities of the U.S. government.

This comes hours after U.S. President Donald Trump told Reuters that the United States will end its war on Iran “fairly soon,” while stressing that it could return for “spot hits” if needed.

However, the two sides have not yet reached a point that shows whether this confrontation will end in understanding or escalate further into increased tensions between the parties involved.
