Kabul Municipality Plans 233 Projects with $9 Billion AFN Budget

The Head of Planning, Policy, Monitoring, and Evaluation at Kabul Municipality, during a briefing on the institution’s achievements, stated that based on the 1405 plan, the municipality has a wide range of projects underway across different parts of the city.

According to him, a total of 233 development projects are included in this year’s plan, covering the construction of roads, buildings, overpasses, vehicle routes, sidewalks, and urban greening initiatives.

He added that a budget of more than 9.123 billion Afghanis has been allocated for the implementation of these projects.

Mohammad Qasim Afghan said: “Kabul Municipality has planned various projects across different parts of the city for 1405 (solar year), which will be implemented gradually throughout the year. In total, 233 projects are included in the development plan.”

Mohammad Khalid Sijistani, Deputy for Urban and Environmental Services at Kabul Municipality, stated: “Over the past four and a half years, Kabul Municipality has managed to construct around 450 kilometers of roads across the city. These roads vary in width, including the Khair Khana Pass road, which is 60 meters wide.”

Kabul Municipality has also collected 7.6 billion Afghanis in revenue over the past year, bringing the total for the past four and a half years to over 28 billion Afghanis.

Officials added that in the past year, nearly 137 kilometers of main and secondary roads were constructed, 91 kilometers were rehabilitated, and another 72 kilometers were surveyed.

It is also noted that more than 1.2 billion Afghanis were paid last year as compensation for property acquisition to citizens.

Ne’matullah Barakzai, a Kabul Municipality representative, added: “In 1404 (solar year), about 137 kilometers of roads were built across Kabul with widths ranging from 4 to 60 meters. However, unfortunately, around 70 percent of Kabul city has developed in an unplanned manner. Additionally, more than 72 kilometers of roads were surveyed last year.”

Other achievements of Kabul Municipality over the past year include the construction of 6.9 kilometers of drainage canals, installation and repair of more than 10,000 streetlights, planting of one million trees and ornamental plants, removal of over 500,000 tons of waste from the city, collection and vaccination of stray dogs, installation of address signage, and improvements in the process of issuing construction permits.
