Nearly 100 Afghan Migrants Released from Pakistani Prisons

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation says that nearly 100 Afghan migrants have been released from prisons in Pakistan and returned to the country.

According to officials from the Spin Boldak transfer management under the Kandahar Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation, these individuals had been detained due to a lack of legal documents.

After registration and receiving humanitarian assistance, they were transferred to their home areas.

Political analyst Enayatullah Hamaam said: “Consulates and embassies of their respective country are responsible for reviewing all their rights and, in addition, compensating for any damages caused by unlawful and unjustified detentions.”

Meanwhile, some legal experts, expressing concern over the situation of Afghan migrants in Iran and Pakistan, say that the arrest and imprisonment of migrants without due legal process constitute a violation of their human rights.

They emphasize that a clear mechanism should be established between Afghanistan and host countries to protect migrants’ rights and prevent mass detentions.

Legal expert Rohullah Sakhi Zada stated: “Their cases must be processed as soon as possible to determine the actual charges for which those detained are being held.”

Migrant rights activist Mohammad Jamal Muslim said: “If the international community and human rights defenders do not engage with the situation of Afghan migrants, who face numerous challenges, it could lead to a major humanitarian crisis.”

Previously, the Commission for Addressing Migrant Issues reported that nearly 2,500 Afghan prisoners had been released from prisons in Iran and Pakistan and returned to the country over the past month.
