Kenya Court Approves Extradition of Former Afghan MP to US

Kenyan media outlets reported that a court in the country has ruled to extradite Zahir Qadir, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament, to the United States.
He is accused of involvement in drug trafficking and the illegal arms trade.
According to the reports, Qadir was arrested at the request of the United States, and the court has now approved his extradition after reviewing the evidence presented.
Meanwhile, his defense lawyers have opposed the decision, stating that his rights must be taken into consideration.
Appeals or other legal efforts are expected, but no date has yet been announced for the extradition.
Abdul Zahir Qadir previously served as a representative of Nangarhar province and as deputy speaker in Afghanistan’s parliament during the former republic government.
He was arrested in May last year during a trip abroad.
At the time, his family met with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, Amir Khan Muttaqi, requesting assistance in following up on his case.
