More Than 1,100 Types of Medicines Produced in Herat Industrial Park

Local officials in Herat say more than 1,100 types of medicines are being produced in the province’s industrial park.

According to the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, 18 pharmaceutical and medical supply factories are currently operating in the industrial park.

Mohammad Naser Amin, head of the chamber, said: “There are 18 active pharmaceutical and medical supply factories in Herat’s industrial park. Construction work on around 30 more factories is also underway, but some lack land while others face electricity shortages. We hope these factories will begin operations in 1405.”

In addition to medicines, medical supplies needed for hospitals in Herat are also produced in the industrial park.

In recent months, production at pharmaceutical factories in Herat has increased following restrictions on medicine imports from Pakistan.

Ahmad Farid Raoufi, deputy head of a pharmaceutical factory in Herat, said: “We produce standard medicines, and I can proudly say that our products can compete with imported medicines in terms of quality. Our goal is to produce high-quality medicines and increase public trust in domestic products.”

Doctors say locally produced medicines are manufactured according to international standards.

Nematullah Qazi Zada, head of the laboratory at a pharmaceutical factory in Herat, said: “We feel responsible for the health of our people and are working to provide high-quality, effective, safe and reliable medicines.”

Despite the production of hundreds of types of medicines in Herat’s industrial park, a large portion of the domestic market’s pharmaceutical needs is still imported from other countries.
