Aid Delivered to Nearly 500 Flood-Affected Families in Nuristan
Nearly 500 families affected by the recent floods in Nuristan have received food, non-food items, and cash assistance.
Officials said the aid was provided by various government and non-government organizations, adding that relief efforts will be further accelerated.
Nuristan Deputy Governor Faisal Mukhtar said: “The floods have caused significant human and financial losses, and no one should withhold assistance within their means.”
Saifullah Khalid, head of Nuristan’s Department of Disaster Preparedness and Response, said: “Additional assistance will also arrive.”
Affected families say they have suffered heavy financial and personal losses and are calling on the relevant authorities to provide further and more sustainable support.
Flood survivor Mohammad Osman said: “We were in a very difficult situation, but thank God some assistance has reached us, and we are managing to get by.”
Another flood survivor, Mohammad Zubair, said: “The floods destroyed our homes and most of our household belongings.”
According to Nuristan provincial officials, the devastating floods that struck Parun city, the provincial capital, on Monday afternoon last week killed 25 people, injured 125 others, and caused an estimated $40 million in financial losses.
