Indonesia: Recognition of Islamic Emirate to Align With Int’l Community
The chargé d’affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Kabul, responding to a question about the possible recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said that Indonesia would align its position on the issue with that of the international community.
At the same time, he emphasized expanding relations and cooperation between Afghanistan and Indonesia, adding that ties between the two countries have deep historical roots.
Nanda Avalist, chargé d’affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Kabul, said: “As part of the international community and the international system, we move forward together on this path. Nation-building is a very important area, but it is not something that can be accomplished overnight. Indonesia and other members of the international community can play a positive and constructive role in this process.”
Indonesia is a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and analysts believe it can use this position to help strengthen engagement and cooperation between Islamic countries and Afghanistan.
Omar Mukhtar Nikzad, a university lecturer, said: “Expanding relations between Afghanistan and Islamic countries is important not only politically, but also from an Islamic perspective. Indonesia can play an important role in developing this cooperation.”
Wahid Faqiri, an international relations expert, said: “The position of Malaysia or other countries on recognition makes one point clear: reforms must first be made to the current approach of the ruling authorities, after which the issue of recognition can be resolved.”
Although Indonesia says its position on recognizing the Islamic Emirate will align with that of the international community, its emphasis on expanding relations and cooperation with Afghanistan indicates that Jakarta seeks to maintain and further develop its current engagement with Kabul.
