Returnees in Farah Seek Support to Build Homes

Recent returnees to Farah from Iran and Pakistan say the government has distributed land to them, but they are unable to build homes due to unemployment.

They are calling on the government and aid organizations to assist them in building shelters.

Mir Ahmad, a 45-year-old resident of Farah who recently returned from Iran with his seven-member family, said: “I spent around 20 years in Iran, and it has been more than a year since I returned to the country. The Islamic Emirate provided us with some assistance. We were also given land, but we cannot afford to build on it and need assistance in this regard because we are unemployed and have no source of income.”

Residents of Farah also complain about unemployment and say job opportunities should be provided for them in the country.

Mohammad Ismail, a resident of Farah, said: “I was in Iran, but Afghans were facing a lot of difficulties there, so I returned to my country.”

Local officials say land has been distributed to more than 8,000 families who returned from Iran and Pakistan, and efforts are underway to provide facilities for the construction of their homes.

Shukrullah Bilal, secretary to the governor of Farah, said: “We provide cash and non-cash assistance to returnees from Iran and Pakistan. Recently, we distributed land to more than 8,000 families, and we are working to build homes for them as well.”

Officials add that they will also assist these families with the construction of their homes in the future.
