International Human Rights Day; UNAMA called on the Taliban to protect the rights of all Afghans

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) today called on the Taliban to uphold equal rights for all Afghans on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
“Principles of equality and non-discrimination are crucial for everyone to enjoy their human rights,” UNAMA Secretary-General Dabira Lines said in a statement issued today on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. “We call on the Taliban to make this a daily reality in Afghanistan.”
UNAMA stressed in its statement that the Taliban’s commitments to protect the rights of all Afghans must be fulfilled.
The statement added that women and girls have witnessed the weakening of their rights since August 15, 2021. Considerable efforts by the Taliban are needed to actively promote and support equal rights for girls and women in access to education, work, free movement and other areas of life.
UNAMA also noted that the United Nations continues to provide credible reports of killings, enforced disappearances and the use of violence against former members of the Afghan security forces, government and civil society, including protesters, media workers, human rights defenders and minorities. Recent, deeply concerned.
UNAMA called on the Taliban to investigate the matter and make their findings public, and to show their commitment to protect the rights of all Afghans by taking all possible measures to prevent such crimes.
