Fifteen EU member states have agreed to accept 40,000 Afghan refugees

According to VOA, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Yelva Johansson said yesterday after meeting with EU interior ministers that a number of countries had agreed to accept some 40,000 Afghan refugees.

The EU Commissioner for Home Affairs called the move an effective act of solidarity and called for more Afghan-controlled migration.

According to AFP, Germany will receive 25,000, the Netherlands 3,159, France 2,500 and 12 other countries with fewer asylum seekers.

It is noteworthy that after the withdrawal of US troops and the takeover of the Taliban in August, 24 EU member states evacuated 28,000 people evacuated from Afghanistan.
