UNAMA called for the release of women protesters detained by the Taliban

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General has called on the Taliban to release the abducted women protesters as soon as possible.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul said in a statement that Deborah Lions, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, met with Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s acting interior minister, to demand the release of abducted women protesters.
The statement said Ms. Lions called on the Taliban to investigate the abduction of women protesters and guarantee their release.
Meanwhile, according to some reports, Temna Zaryab Pariani, along with her three sisters and Parvaneh Ibrahimkhel, members of the Afghan women’s justice protest movement, were arrested last week by Taliban militants from their homes.
But the Taliban have denied detaining the women protesters.
