Médecins Sans Frontières reports an increase in measles cases in Afghanistan

Médecins Sans Frontières says measles cases have risen to unprecedented levels in Helmand, Kunduz and Herat provinces over the past two months.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said in a news release yesterday that about 800 measles cases had been diagnosed in Afghanistan in February, with more than 450 people hospitalized.

According to this newsletter, 40 cases of measles have been registered in Herat District Hospital in one day, and the officials of this hospital have decided to create another department to increase the threat of a bed for measles patients.

Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed concern over the outbreak of measles in Afghanistan.

The agency said the incidence of the disease was rising in the country and that thousands of children had been infected.
