The measles vaccination process has begun in Afghanistan

The World Health Organization has announced the start of the measles vaccination process across Afghanistan.

The WHO vaccination process has started in 24 provinces of Afghanistan today and 1.2 million children aged 6 to 59 months are expected to receive the measles vaccine, according to a statement issued by the World Health Organization.

The organization said that currently 9,200 staff have been trained to cover 49 districts in 24 provinces of Afghanistan.

According to the organization, 49 districts in Badakhshan, Badghis, Baghlan, Balkh, Faryab, Helmand, Herat, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Kapisa, Khost, Kunduz, Laghman, Nangarhar, Nimroz, Nuristan, Paktika and Paktia provinces will benefit from the campaign.

“This measles outbreak campaign is part of a national effort to prevent the spread of the disease, save the lives of young children and reduce the burden on the health system,” said Dr Ludapang, WHO Representative in Afghanistan.

He called on families to vaccinate their children against the disease.

Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned of an increase in the number of children infected with measles in Afghanistan.
