SIGAR expressed concern about the Taliban’s access to cash aid sent to the Afghan people

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction says he is concerned that the money donated to the Afghan people will fall into the hands of the Taliban.
In an interview with RFE / RL, US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko expressed concern about the Taliban’s access to donations to the Afghan people.
“We have talked to UN officials about how to protect the cash sent … and we hope it will be protected, but it is more difficult to ensure because we have no presence in Afghanistan,” he said.
He added that humanitarian aid was not enough to contain the economic crisis in Afghanistan, and that in the absence of money injections, economic collapse could have dire consequences for the Afghan people.
Meanwhile, the United Nations, along with other humanitarian aid, is sending cash to the country in a humanitarian framework to address the problems of liquidity shortage in the Central Bank of Afghanistan.
Earlier, Mohammad Sabir Momand, a spokesman for the Taliban Central Bank, said that so far 30 cash aid packages had been sent to Afghanistan by donor countries.
According to him, these aids amount to a total of 889 million and 600 thousand dollars.
