Guterres asked the Taliban to cancel the measures that prevent access to education

The Secretary General of the United Nations asked the Taliban to cancel the decrees that prevent the education of women and girls in Afghanistan.

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in a message once again condemned the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan and said that all discriminatory laws and measures that prevent access to education must be ended.

Mr. Guterres said in this message on the occasion of January 24th International Education Day: “I ask the Taliban to cancel the cruel ban on access to secondary and higher education for girls and women in Afghanistan.”

It should be mentioned that currently the caretaker government of the Taliban has prevented the education of girls in Afghanistan and all public and private universities are closed to girls.
