OCHA: The average debt of families in Afghanistan has increased six times

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that the average family debt in Afghanistan has increased six times.

This international institution wrote in a tweet that the average debt of families in Afghanistan has increased sixfold between 2019 and 2022, from $114 to $687.

Ocha added that Afghan families are facing problems to make ends meet and put food on the table, and the United Nations should stand by Afghans and continue working with them.

The collapse of Afghanistan’s economy after the Taliban’s return to power has led to a humanitarian crisis, which was exacerbated by the group’s new order to ban women from working as aid workers.

According to the latest UN report published in January, 28.3 million people need humanitarian aid this year out of a total of 43 million people in Afghanistan.
