The explosion of a mortar shell in Maidan Wardak resulted in the death of 5 children
Local sources in Maidan Wardak say that 5 children died after the explosion of a mortar head in this province.
Sources say that this incident happened on Saturday in “Dasht Top” area of Syed Abad district of this province when some children were busy playing with a mortar head.
At the same time, health officials in Maidan Wardak province say that as a result of this incident, 5 children died and two children were injured.
Earlier, the United Nations Children’s Protection Organization (UNICEF) tweeted that in 2022, more than 700 children were killed or maimed due to the explosion of unexploded ordnance and remnants of war in Afghanistan.
UNICEF said it is increasing mine risk education efforts to educate children, caregivers and communities, and is providing psychosocial support to families of children affected by unexploded ordnance blasts.
