OCHA: More than 176,000 earthquake victims have been helped in Afghanistan

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan has announced that after the first severe earthquake in the province, international relief organizations have taken care of 176,700 people affected by this event.

OCHA said in a report that international relief agencies have covered 142 villages in the earthquake affected areas and provided drinking water to 257,800 people.

OCHA added that the aid provided to the affected communities to date includes emergency shelters (tents) for 11,400 households and $2.4 million in multi-purpose cash assistance to 8,950 households, of which approximately 5,500 people have complete packages which includes 340 dollars for each household.

According to OCHA, in addition, 14,300 families received non-food items, 12,500 families received winter blankets, and 9,120 families received shelter repair packages.

OCHA added that emergency food aid was also provided to 86,500 people, permanent support to 5,000 people, nutritious food to almost 11,000 boys and girls under the age of five, and basic health care to 31,300 people.
