First Pharmaceutical Factory Opens in Helmand

For the first time, a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant with a budget of 30 million afghani has started operations in Helmand province.

The head of this factory said that its first phase is now active, currently producing six types of medicine.

Sayed Wali Jahani, the factory manager, said: “Professional staff are working with us here to produce medicine. Currently, the syrup production section is active, and in the future, we plan to launch sections for tablet, capsule, and ampoule production as well.”

Local Helmand officials have also announced plans to support investors, revealing that an industrial park will soon begin operations in the province.

Rahmatullah Nazari, head of Industry and Trade in Helmand, said: “We call on traders and industrialists to return to their country and create employment opportunities for their fellow citizens.”

Ghulam Yahya Pashtun, head of Helmand’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said: “In the near future, a government-owned town will officially open in Helmand, and with the help of domestic and foreign investors, the foundation stone of another factory will also be laid.”

Some residents of Helmand view the launch of this factory as a positive step.

Nasrullah, a Helmand resident, said, “Medicine quality in Helmand is poor; this is the first time a pharmaceutical factory has been established here with significant investment. We hope that the quality of medicine will improve so people don’t suffer.”

Another resident, Ahmad Mubarak, said: “For the first time, a pharmaceutical factory is being built in Helmand, and we are very happy because it will have a positive impact on us. This is a major achievement.”
It is noteworthy that, until now, Afghanistan has relied on imported medicines, which has raised concerns about their quality.
