Mujahid: UN’s Negative Perception of Afghanistan Stems from UNAMA
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said that the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has been exaggerating negative issues while failing to reflect positive developments.
Mujahid said that UNAMA’s activities have not been beneficial and have instead contributed to fostering a negative perception of Afghanistan.
“Negative reports about Afghanistan have been presented through UNAMA, and unfortunately, the United Nations has also developed a misguided perception of Afghanistan based on incorrect and inaccurate information from UNAMA. Progress, achievements, stability, and security in Afghanistan have not been considered by UNAMA,” he said.
Mujahid’s remarks come ahead of a UN Security Council meeting scheduled for next Monday to assess the situation in Afghanistan and discuss the extension of UNAMA’s mandate.
Political analyst Moeen Gul Samkani told : “UNAMA should observe the realities and report them to the UN. Over the past three and a half years, we have seen that drugs, terrorism, and all forms of corruption have been eradicated from the country. UNAMA should take such matters into account.”
UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan includes promoting human rights and gender equality, facilitating negotiations, fostering regional cooperation, coordinating humanitarian aid, and supporting climate action.
Previously, two draft resolutions for extending UNAMA’s mandate were submitted—one by the United States and South Korea, and the other by China and Pakistan.
