Kyrgyzstan Backs Russia’s Recognition of Islamic Emirate

Kyrgyzstan’s National Security Advisor, Baktybek Bekbolotov, has described Russia’s decision to recognize the Islamic Emirate as logical and reasonable, stating that the move would contribute to regional security and Afghanistan’s stability.

Bekbolotov emphasized that this decision does not imply that other countries will immediately follow suit, as each state will act based on its national interests. He added that Kyrgyzstan, like other regional countries, is pursuing a pragmatic policy toward Afghanistan’s current government.

In part of his remarks, Bekbolotov stated: “Russia’s recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan appears to be a fully logical and reasonable step. However, it does not mean other countries will take the same step soon. Each will act in line with its national interests. For example, Kyrgyzstan, like other countries in the region, is formulating a pragmatic approach toward Afghanistan’s de facto authorities.”

Political analyst Muin Gul Chamkani said, “Kyrgyzstan is a weak country. It lacks access to the sea and is limited both economically and militarily. However, removing Afghanistan from its blacklist is a positive step and may soon lead to official recognition.”

Political analysts believe that the Islamic Emirate must expand its diplomatic ties to gain recognition from other countries.

Political analyst Idris Mohammadi Zazai stated, “There must be negotiations over the demands of the international community to determine which are acceptable. This could pave the way for recognition of the Islamic Emirate, particularly in the Middle East and neighboring countries.”

International relations expert Najib-ur-Rahman Shamal added: “If the Islamic Emirate takes steps against drug trafficking, enacts a new constitution, fulfills the Afghan people’s demands, and reopens schools, this would naturally create the conditions for official recognition—especially from Central Asian countries.”

This comes after Kyrgyzstan, on the 14th of Sunbula last year (early September), became the second country after Kazakhstan to remove the Islamic Emirate from its list of banned organizations.
