Kabul Trade Township Opens to Process European Imports

A trade township aimed at attracting investment from returning Afghans and creating job opportunities was inaugurated yesterday (Tuesday) in the Lattaband area of Kabul.
This township will serve as a processing hub for goods imported from Europe and other countries and will facilitate the activities of returning traders.
Officials emphasize that the investments made reflect improved security and economic growth in the country.
Noorul Haq Anwar, Director General of the Administrative Office of the Prime Minister, said at the inauguration ceremony: “Now the conditions for Afghans to return have been made favorable. The pleasing point is that Afghans and migrant traders are returning to the country after decades.”
On the other hand, the contracting company says traders will first process and package imported goods from Europe and other countries here and then sell them in domestic and international markets.
According to the company official, significant efforts have been made to transfer the capital of traders who previously operated in Pakistan, Iran, and Tajikistan.
Abdul Basir Mashal, the township’s director, said: “The markets and shops of this township will be built like warehouses. Imported goods from Europe will be processed here, and most will be re-exported to Asian countries.”
Political analyst Fazel Rahman Oria stated: “Hundreds and thousands of people will work here. Many workers will benefit both directly and indirectly. Trade facilities will be established in the country.”
Lack of employment opportunities is considered one of the main challenges for citizens, but analysts believe that any investment in various domestic production sectors can reduce issues of unemployment, hardship, and poverty.
