UN Allocates $11 Million in Emergency Aid for Gaza

During months of war and violence in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian civilians have faced severe and painful humanitarian conditions.
Widespread destruction of infrastructure, severe shortages of water and food, limited medical services, and homelessness had turned daily life into a scene of suffering and despair.
Now, with the start of a ceasefire, the United Nations has allocated $11 million in emergency funds to support Gaza, aiming to expand humanitarian assistance, including food, water, medical care, and shelter, for civilians affected by the war.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN, said: “Regarding the humanitarian situation, Tom Fletcher, the Emergency Relief Coordinator, today allocated an additional $11 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to immediately scale up humanitarian operations in Gaza before winter. This follows the allocation of $9 million last week to secure sufficient fuel for the continuation of vital services.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has rebuilt Gaza’s water purification plant to restore access to clean water for residents of the area.
UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram said: “This is a water purification plant. When Gaza City was under heavy bombardment and evacuation orders were issued, some of the equipment was moved south to protect it. They tried to preserve it, and now it has been brought back so the plant can operate again. With UNICEF’s support, it will provide safe drinking water for the people of Gaza.”
After months of war, destruction, and blockade, more than two million Palestinians are living in dire humanitarian and economic conditions.
Continuous Israeli attacks, the destruction of vital infrastructure, and the prolonged blockade had pushed the region to the brink of famine and total humanitarian collapse.
Now, with the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, a glimmer of hope has opened for the people of Gaza.
