The United Nations warned of an increase in Afghan migration

The head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has expressed concern about the situation in Afghanistan, saying it could trigger a new wave of Afghan migration.

Filippo Grande, the head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, told a UN Security Council meeting yesterday that he was concerned about the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and said that the number of people seeking to leave Afghanistan had increased in recent weeks.

He added: “In recent weeks we have seen an increase in the number of Afghans leaving the country. “We believe that a deeper and bigger crisis boom in the government and the economy will lead to much more flight to neighboring countries and even beyond.”

Emphasizing that humanitarian aid could not save Afghanistan’s economy, Grandi said that about 23 million people in Afghanistan were living in extreme hunger.

Recent developments have led to rising unemployment and poor economic conditions, leading to a large wave of migration from Afghanistan.
