Mujahid expressed hope for the opening of girls’ schools in the New Year

A Taliban spokesman has expressed hope that girls’ schools will open across the country next year.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Zabihullah Mujahid, deputy minister of information and culture and a Taliban spokesman, said he hoped girls’ schools would open across Afghanistan by the start of the new year.

Emphasizing that the country’s education system is trying to open girls’ classes at the beginning of the new year, Mujahid added: “The biggest obstacle so far is finding or building enough dormitories so that girls can stay there while going to school. “In densely populated areas, having separate classrooms is not enough for boys and girls – separate school buildings are needed.”

However, after the Taliban took control, girls ‘schools have remained closed in most provinces of the country, while boys’ schools have been open.
