Norway called for action by the international community to guarantee assistance to the Central Bank of Afghanistan

The Norwegian Refugee Council has called on the United States and the international community to take steps to ensure mechanisms to provide assistance to the Central Bank of Afghanistan.

The Office of the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) wrote in a tweet that the Norwegian Refugee Council has asked the United States and the international community to take steps to ensure mechanisms for providing technical assistance to the Central Bank of Afghanistan.

SIGAR added that they argue that building the capacity and independence of the Central Bank of Afghanistan is a necessary step towards reviving the commercial banking sector and reconnecting the country to the global economy, maintaining macroeconomic stability and restoring confidence in its banking system.

It should be noted that the Taliban has been under international sanctions for a long time, and with the collapse of the previous government of Afghanistan and the return to power of this group, the reserves of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, which were kept in American banks, were also blocked.

Despite this, the US Department of Treasury recently announced that international banks can transfer money to Afghanistan for humanitarian purposes without fear of sanctions.
