Türkiye’s invitation to the Islamic world to impose an arms embargo against Israel

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan invited the Islamic world to impose an arms embargo against Israel during the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League. According to the information received from diplomatic sources, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan evaluated the issue of Palestine at the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League, which was held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Emphasizing that Israel’s genocidal attacks in Gaza must be ended, Fidan emphasized: For this purpose, we must act by uniting and cooperating with the countries that respond to these demands. Turkey’s Foreign Minister pointed out that Al-Aqsa Mosque is under threat and said: Israel’s far-right political figures, including ministers, have clearly expressed their intention to change the historical status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Pointing out that this situation is not only for Palestinians but for all Muslims, Fidan clarified: These issues must be expressed with one voice, but this issue must be raised not only in speech but also in action. Minister Fidan noted: A handful of countries continue to send weapons and ammunition to Israel so that Israel can continue this war.

Pointing out that there are specific measures to prevent bloodshed and regional war, Fidan stated: First of all, we can start an arms embargo against Israel. As Türkiye, we started an initiative at the United Nations to stop the shipment of weapons to Israel.

This initiative was supported by fifty-two countries, including several permanent members of the Security Council. We all have to do our best to take on more responsibilities. Now is the time to prove our unity and solidarity. Fidan also noted that a mobilization should be launched to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Hakan Fidan also held bilateral meetings with the ministers of some countries participating in the summit.

Fidan held separate bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt and Maldives.
