Former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan: We no longer intend to repeat past tensions

Former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef was quoted in the BBC as saying that the group no longer intends to repeat past austerity measures.

“People’s lives are normal now. Women’s education has started and women can go to work,” Zaif said.

“This is a big conspiracy against the Taliban, it gives people the impression that the Taliban are horrible and anti-people, they are against education,” he said, criticizing news coverage that portrays the Taliban badly.

“When I call people in Kabul, they are satisfied there. The Taliban do not take revenge on the people, even those who go to the airport, the Taliban do not prevent them from going to the airport legally,” he added.

Recently, however, some videos circulating on social media show Taliban fighters beating some citizens.

But the Taliban have not yet commented.
