Floods Ravage Badakhshan: Homes and Hundreds of Acres Destroyed

Heavy rainfall and devastating floods in Badakhshan have caused extensive damage to residents of the Baharak and Jurm districts.
Residents say that Friday evening’s floods destroyed several residential homes and hundreds of acres of farmland and orchards.
Sayed Ahmad Saeedi, the mayor of Jurm district, said: “Yesterday, around 5:30 in the morning, the flood occurred and caused severe damage to the people—destroying their homes, lands, and gardens.”
Rahmatullah, another affected resident, said: “Nothing is left for us. The flood swept away everything, including carpets and kitchenware.”
Several flood victims have called on the caretaker government and relief organizations for urgent assistance.
Abdul Qadeer, another affected resident, said: “Our request of the government is to help us and to build flood barriers so that we don’t face such disasters again.”
Meanwhile, officials from Badakhshan’s Natural Disaster Management Authority have announced that assessments have begun and aid responses are being organized.
Mohammad Kamgar, head of the department, said: “Unfortunately, yesterday’s floods in the districts of Jurm and Baharak destroyed residential houses, farmlands, and orchards. Our teams have been deployed to the area, and aid will follow once assessments are complete.”
The floods also damaged dozens of vehicles along the Fayzabad–Baharak highway.
