The United Nations has confirmed the appointment of Nasir Ahmad Fayek as Afghanistan’s representative

The UN Under-Secretary-General confirmed that they had received a letter from the Afghan Permanent Mission to the United Nations appointing Nasir Ahmad Fayek as Afghanistan’s interim representative to replace Ghulam Ishaqozi, the resigned head of the UN.
“Yesterday we received a letter from the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan confirming that Ghulam Ishaqozi, Afghanistan’s former ambassador to the United Nations, has resigned since December 15,” said Farhan Haq, UN Under-Secretary-General. “The letter also names the interim representative of Afghanistan.”
However, a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General did not comment on whether the change would affect the accreditation of Afghanistan’s representative to the United Nations.
Earlier, UN member states passed a resolution not to hand over Afghanistan’s seat to the Taliban, and Afghanistan’s former representative to the organization, who was appointed at the end of Ashraf Ghani’s rule, remains in office.
